Texoma Region—March 2025-The Texoma Behavioral Health Leadership Team is excited to announce the Ninth Annual Community Behavioral Health Conference (CBHC) event is taking place on April 25th, 2025, from 8:00 AM to 3:30 PM at the Nations/Ida Green Theater on the Austin College campus in Sherman, Texas. The conference will bring together professionals, advocates, and community members focused on enhancing mental health awareness and services. This year’s theme, “Inform, Uplift, and Empower,” promises to inspire and educate attendees through a day of insightful plenary sessions, breakout seminars, and personal stories.
The conference features three dynamic plenary speakers:
Dr. Frank Campbell: A seasoned expert with over 40 years of experience in behavioral health, Dr. Campbell will share “Lessons Learned After Forty Years of Working in the Canyon of Why.” His insights are invaluable for professionals looking to understand the root causes and responses to suicide and behavioral health challenges.
Shauna Barnes: A renowned speaker on adolescent mental health, Shauna will explore “The Gift of the Teen Brain”, discussing the unique aspects of teenage brain development and how to effectively support and understand youth during this critical period.
Katie Mitten: from the Meadows Mental Health Policy Institute will present “Supporting Youth with Developmental Disabilities in Mental Health Crises,” focusing on practical strategies for assisting young individuals with developmental disabilities through challenging mental health moments.
Attendees can also attend breakout seminars designed to inform and equip them to enhance community behavioral health and wellbeing.
Dr. Frank Cambell – Founder of LOSS (Local Outreach for Suicide Survivors) Teams, will offer guidance and consultation on effectively implementing and sustaining LOSS Teams.
Dr. Andrew Clifford – Will explore the integration of spirituality in mental and physical health, wellness, and longevity. He will discuss the science of spirituality, the brain’s connection to God, and how practices like gratitude and forgiveness enhance well-being and longevity.
Sharon Luse – A specialist in military cultural competency, she will discuss the unique contributions and challenges of the Veteran community. This seminar will offer insight into our local Veteran population along with Veteran specific resources.
Michelle Williams, Brynane Payne & Alexis Wade – Personal Care/Crisis Counselors with Region 10 and advocates for collective engagement and the power of bridging voices, will explore how educators, mental health professionals, and community leaders can collaborate to support student well-being. The seminar will also highlight strengthening family-school connections and leveraging community resources to enhance student wellness.
Yohna Chambers-Hastings – Returning from her 2023 CBHC debut, and partnering with Texoma HR, the seminar will address workplace uncertainty and HR leadership. She’ll explore key challenges and share practical strategies to support employees through uncertainty, equipping attendees with actionable approaches to help their workforce thrive.
The conference also includes a distinguished panel of informed community leaders who will address understanding vulnerable populations managing mental health conditions. Jennifer Meyer will serve as the panel’s facilitator. Jennifer currently serves as co-coordinator of Suicide Prevention and Project AWARE for Texas Health and Human Services.
Additionally, there will be local and regional exhibitors/vendors, a personal story, as well as the awarding of the Dr. Don Rodgers and the “Patsy” awards. The Rodgers Award serves to recognize individuals who embody Don’s indomitable spirit to help all of us to become active citizens, serving as agents in our community. The “Patsy” is given to recognize a currently licensed mental health professional while honoring Patsy’s work and foresight.
The Texoma Behavioral Health Leadership Team (TBLHT) is a collective impact nonprofit dedicated to advancing mental health and well-being across the region. The CBHC is a premier event that gathers experts and advocates in the field of mental health and provides a platform for networking, sharing best practices, innovative research, and strategies to improve the lives of individuals facing mental health challenges. The conference provides essential learning experience for professionals in healthcare, education, social services, and members of the public who are passionate about supporting mental health and wellness in the community.
