?Big Texas Breakfast Day? Open House
Come celebrate the anniversary of Dwight D. Eisenhower?s 1946 visit to the house and city where he was born. This was the first time Eisenhower saw the Birthplace house as an adult. His hosts were U.S. Speaker of the House Sam Rayburn and Miss Jennie Jackson, a local resident who headed efforts to turn the house into a museum. General Eisenhower enjoyed a ?big Texas breakfast? in the dining room of the Birthplace before taking part in a parade and a community barbecue in his honor. Enjoy free thematic tours of the Birthplace house featuring the Big Texas Breakfast and preparations for General Eisenhower?s Visit. See a Big Texas Breakfast exhibit in the Visitor Center featuring objects, photographs, and letters from Sam Rayburn and Jennie Jackson. Light refreshments will be served.
